The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) United Arab Emirates Chapter, under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, had successfully hosted the 4th IECEP GCC Summit, adopting the IECEP, Inc. theme “Enhancing Capability of Globally Competitive Electronics Professionals”. This annual major gathering was held last September 15-16, 2017 at Dusit Thani Dubai, which was attended by Dr. Fatma Taher, vice-chair of IEEE UAE Section, along with 185 delegates from 7 strong chapters in the Middle East namely; Bahrain, KSA-CRC, KSA-ERC, KSA-WRC, Kuwait, Oman and the UAE.

The said event is part of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program of the organization in compliance to the requirements of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) to keep IECEP members well-informed and updated on the latest technology and best practices in the field of electronics engineering. It has been an effective venue for the meeting of Electronics Engineering professionals composed of PECE, ECE, ECT and practitioners in the GCC in order to foster camaraderie as we envisage globally competitive and competent Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the region.

A grandiose Opening Ceremony paved way for the start of the Summit with the Welcome Address of IECEP UAE Chapter Governor, Engr. Analiza Binondo’s greetings to all the distinguished guests and delegates and declaring the convention open. In attendance were the Professional Regulatory Board of Electronics Engineering Chairman Dr. Alnar Detalla being the Keynote Guest Speaker and Member Engr. Enrico Claro Delmoro, whom both imparted awareness and updates significant to the ECE profession for the benefit of the Overseas Foreign Workers Electronics Engineers and practitioners. IECEP National President Dr Arsol Reyes, heads the delegation from IECEP Inc. with VP-Internal Affairs Engr. Raymond Medina and Director Engr. Gerhard Tan in support to the chapters and its members in the Gulf Region. The presence of our dear Ambassador HE Constancio Vingno, Jr and his wife Madame Yoko Ramos-Vingno was a delight to all the participants for the time spent, inspiration and motivation to all members of IECEP UAE Chapter which made the event extra special when he delivered his Inspirational Message being the Guest of Honor.

There were 11 topics presented in the plenary hall covering the 2-day sessions with Guest Resource Speakers from the UAE which includes Dr. Gregory Skulmoski, Dr. Rommel Sergio and Ms. Irene Corpuz and from the Philippines with our BECE Engr. Enrico Claro Delmoro and IECEP Director Engr. Gerhard Tan who had explained vehemently on their specialized areas of expertise. Also our Technical Resource Speakers from GCC Chapters, Engr. Christopher Papa of IECEP KSA-CRC, Engr. Christian Fajardo of IECEP KSA-ERC, Engr. Alexander Limjoco of IECEP Bahrain and our very own Engr. Joseph Cabatay and Engr. Louie Mel Maliksi of IECEP UAE Chapter had generously shared their knowledge and experience in their respective field which added new learnings to all the delegates. Dr Alnar Detalla accommodated questions and issues during the PRC BECE Hour from the participants leading to clarifications and enlightenment to every concerned individual.

The Gala Night Dinner Masquerade Ball Party eased the tension and gave excitement to the event, showcasing the fabulous masks and the talents of the Engineers. Undeniably, engineers can party and they party hard, with grace and elegance. It was the best occasion to socialize, meet new friends and build networks whilst and even on the dancefloor.

The 4th IECEP GCC Summit headed by the Convention Chairman, Engr. Ronald Esguerra is a dream made into reality with the collaborative selfless efforts of the volunteerism, commitment and untiring support of the officers and members during the months of planning and preparation. Teamwork and hard-work were the key elements that had raised the bar of IECEP as the event unfolded victoriously and grand! Indeed, it is a proud moment for everyone involved as we set another milestone in the history of IECEP.
