19th IEEE UAE Student Day

The IEEE UAE Student Day is an annual event organized by the IEEE UAE Section for all engineering students in the country. The event enhances the culture of competition among engineering students from different UAE universities, recognizes outstanding achievements of IEEE student members, provides opportunities for UAE IEEE students to share their experiences, enhances the leadership qualities of IEEE students, and introduces the IEEE to the public.

*19th IEEE Student Day is open for undergraduate students across UAE with an active IEEE membership

Competition Categories

In this project, students are required to demonstrate their skills in software by developing a mobile app that aims to enhance the independence and quality of life for visually impaired individuals by providing a real-time visual assistance application. The system leverages advanced computer vision and machine learning techniques to recognize objects, read text, and detect hazards, offering audio feedback to users. The application is accessible through mobile applications, ensuring cross-platform availability and convenience.

This competition is intended to give students in the Senior Year of their undergraduate study program the opportunity to demonstrate their graduation projects through a poster and/or an actual demo of the system.

The goal of this competition is to give students the opportunity to investigate the art, science, and therefore limitless possibilities of system design. The main objective of this project is to construct a robotic arm that can throw balls of various weights toward a target at a distance of 3 meters in the shortest amount of time, after facing obstacles that are there to increase the level of challenge.

Design and implement an algorithm for a small logistic robot that will detect, pickup and deliver specific objects to their correct distention. Two colored drop-off zones will be placed along a number of colored objects on a 5×5 matrix as shown in the figure below.

The robot must, autonomously pick up the colored objects and drop them off to the same colored drop-off zone. The robot must follow the black lines that defines the matrix. The robot can be equipped with any robot arm, camera or sensor that will allow it to autonomously do its specific task.

The scope of community service is broad enough to allow student teams to serve either a particular section of the community or the community at large in a variety of ways. However, the service rendered must be significant and the community receiving the service must appreciate its contribution. In addition, the service must have been offered during the present academic year.

Competition Instructions and Rules

Participants in categories (Software Engineering Project (SEP), Common Design Project (CDP), Engineering Design Project (EDP), Senior Design Project (SDP) should be engineering or computer science undergraduate students with active IEEE Student Membership. Category 5 (Community Service) is open for all UAE-based undergraduate students.
