The IEEE sections congress was held at Sydney on 10-13 August 2017. Sydney is a beautiful city and the congress venue was the International Convention Centre on the harbor. Prof. Hussain Al-Ahmad was the representative of IEEE UAE Section in the congress. On Thursday 10 August 2017 region 8 meeting was held and chaired by Margrethe Erickson. Different committees presented their activities at the meeting. On Thursday evening region 8 had their formal dinner at the Hilton hotel. Region 8 meeting continued on Friday morning. On Friday afternoon the congress started. The congress had exhibitions, breakout sessions, and learning hubs.  Different IEEE societies were exhibiting at the convention center. Learning hubs included different topics such as V-Tools and senior memberships. The congress continued for the next two days and discussed 16 proposals. The congress adopted the following proposals:

  • Develop an incentive program for corporations to join IEEE as “Corporate Member”.
  • Develop or expand existing programs and/or create partnerships with external organizations to allow members to provide STEM activities to pre-college students.
  • Strengthen and recognize Industry, Academia, Government Collaboration and Partnerships.
