Queueing Theory and its Applications Workshop
The College of Engineering in Al Ain University of Science and Technology – Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Campuses, organized a workshop entitled “Queueing Theory and its Applications”, in conjunction with the IEEE UAE Section, IEEE UAE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society – MTT-S, Instrumentation and Measurement Society – IM-S Joint Chapter and the IEEE AAU Student Branch.
The Speaker and Attendees
It was presented by Prof. Mohan Chaudhry, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science – Royal Military College – Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Nazih Khaddaj Mallat –Dean of the College of Engineering, and in the presence of Prof. Ghaleb El Refae – AAU President, Prof. Abdelhafid Belarbi – AAU Vice President – Al Ain Campus, Dr. Amer Qasem – AAU Vice President – Abu Dhabi Campus and the College of Engineering staff and students.
Queueing Theory
Prof. Mohan has started the workshop by defining the “Queueing Theory” definition. It is mathematical modeling of waiting lines, whether of people, signals, or things. It aims to estimate if the available resources will suffice in meeting the anticipated demand over a given period.
He added that the objective of the queueing theory study is to eliminate waste of time, money and materials, in addition to trace the history of queueing theory and its usefulness in the fields of engineering, business, and management.
Dr. Nazih has stressed on the importance of this subject because of the disadvantages resulting from queuing theory, therefore, working to find viable solutions may relieve pressures caused by queues will reduce the cost and effort, especially in the fields of engineering, business and management. He has also valued the ideas presented by Prof. Dr. Mohan Chaudhry.
Appreciation
At the end of the seminar, Prof. Ghaleb El Refae and Dr. Nazih have honored Prof. Mohan for for delivering such important topic to the attendees of the workshop.
